(23) Softball Splits With (18) Grand View

DES MOINES, Iowa – The (23) Ottawa University softball team spilt its double header with (18) Grand View University on Saturday afternoon. The Vikings won game one, 2-0 but the Braves took game two, 4-2.

Game One

There was only a total of five hits between the two teams in game one. Grand View took a 1-0 lead over the Braves, scoring on an error, in the bottom of the third inning.
In the top of the fifth, Macey Morris reached first on a walk and stole second but OU was not able to tie the game. Grand View extended its lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth, 2-0. In the top of the seventh, Cierra Faubion reached first on a single. The Braves were not able to extend the game and Grand View took the 2-0 victory.

Inside the Box Score Game Two

Grand View took a 1-0 lead over the Braves in the bottom of the first inning. Ottawa responded with three runs in the top of the second.

Nayely Delgado singled and then moved to second with a Morgan Bradford walk. Megan Kennedy sacrificed Delgado and third and Bradford to second, giving OU two runners in scoring position. Macy Roever's double scored both Delgado and Bradford, giving the Braves a 2-1 lead. Addison Spencer followed that with a single, scoring Roever and OU had a 3-1 lead.

The Vikings cut into OU's lead with a run in the bottom of the fifth, 3-2. Ottawa pushed an insurance run across home plate in the top of the sixth. Delgado singled and Macey Morris entered the game as a pinch runner. She stole second and then scored on a Viking miscue, giving the Braves a 4-2 lead.

Ottawa only allowed on GVU batter to reach base in the sixth and seventh innings as the Braves took the 4-2 victory.

Ottawa (16-8) opens KCAC play on Tuesday, March 12 at Alumni Park against Friends University. Game one of the double header is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
