Giorgio Leads Men's Tennis at the KCAC Individual Championships

LINDSBORG, Kan. – The Ottawa University men's tennis team competed at the KCAC Individual Championships on Friday and Saturday. The Braves performed well, finishing with three third-place finishes and Oscar Giorgio placed second in no. 2 singles.

Competing in no. 2 singles, Giorgio finished the tournament with a record of 3-1. In round one, he defeated Gavin Chavez from Kansas Wesleyan University 8-2. In the quarterfinals, Giorgio took an 8-2 victory over Martin Priban. He won his semifinal match 8-3 over Bethel College's Rodrigo Sanchez. In the finals against Arthur Nardy from McPherson College, he fell 6-3, 6-2.\

In no. 1 singles, Jarmo Perez Wienese won his round one match against Soleymon Claiborne from Southwestern College, 8-1. He took a 9-8(3) victory over Pedro Felipoff from Sterling College. In the semifinals, Perez Wienese fell 8-2 to McPherson College's Marcus Nardy. He won his third place match 8-5 over Francisco Bravo from Bethany College.

Bernardo Figueiredo, competing in no. 4 singles, won his first match of the day against Camdon Julian from Southwestern College, 8-4. In the quarterfinals, he defeated Friends University's Enric Galan, 8-1. Figueiredo fell short in the semifinals to Bethel College's Billy Haoda, 8-4. In the third place match, he defeated Paul Jittawait from Kansas Wesleyan University, 8-5.

Playing in no. 5 singles, Valentin Corriger defeated Santiago Garcia from the University of Saint Mary in the quarterfinals, 9-8 (3). He was defeated in the semifinals, 8-4, by Bethel College's Jonah Bergeron. Corriger rebounded in the third place match, defeating Rubern Bogomoltz from Sterling College, 8-3.

Luis Figueiredo won his round one match in no. 6 singles, 8-0 over Avila University's Aidan Vandegrift. He lost in the quarterfinals to Jack Hanson from Kansas Wesleyan University, 9-8 (4).
Corriger and Perez Wienese lost their quarterfinal match in no. 1 doubles to Sterling College's Alex Gaboardi and Abhyudit Nagar.

Bernardo Figueiredo and Luis Figueiredo competed in no. 3 doubles for the Braves. They won their round one match 8-0 over Avila University's Dominic Lunn and Vandegrift. The duo took a 9-7 victory in the quarterfinals over Robin Baransi and David Garces of Sterling College. In the semifinals, the Bernardo and Luis lost a tough match to Bergeron and Sanchez of Bethel College, 9-8 (1). The pair won their third place match with a victory over Auron Hoyer and Connor Fitzsimmons from Friends University.

The Braves will now compete in the ITA Fall Regional Championships in Salina, Kan. Friday, Sept. 20 through Sunday, Sept. 22. The tournament will start at 9:00 a.m.
