(20) Softball Hosts Saint Mary at Alumni Park on Saturday

The Braves are 25-4 overall, 8-0 in the KCAC, and are on a 12 game winning streak. Ottawa earned two wins over non-conference opponent, Park University, on Wednesday afternoon in Parkville, Mo.

In the win over the Pirates on Wednesday, as a team, the Braves hit .196 (11-for-56), scored 12 runs, hit one double and two home runs, had 12 RBI, had a .321 slugging percentage, walked seven times, struck out 12 times, had a .308 on base percentage, and was 3-for-4 in stolen base attempts. The OU pitching staff had a 3.73 ERA versus Park. In 15 innings, Ottawa struck out three and the Pirates hit .323 against the Braves.

Through 29 games this season, Ottawa has a .311 batting average, a .389 on base percentage, and a .469 slugging percentage. OU has hit 21 home runs and scored 187 runs. The Braves' 21 home runs ranks fifth in the OU record book in single season team home runs.  

Madison Bunfill leads the Braves in batting average (.422) and RBI (35). Ashlynn Mercer is OU's leader in ERA (3.08) and strike outs (54).

Ottawa will honor its seven seniors on Saturday: Emma Ryan, Riley Newbold, Aliks Serna, Loralei Gilbert, Allison Kearney, Hannah Copeland, and Kelcie Kippes. Dating back to 2019, this senior class has a record of 120-41-1, two KCAC Championships, one KCAC Tournament Championship, one NAIA Opening Round Championship, two NAIA Opening Round appearances, and one NAIA World Series appearance.

The Braves are ranked 16th in the NAIA in runs (187), 35th in hits (242), 13th in doubles (54), 11th in home runs (21), 12th in extra base hits (78), 23rd in total bases (365), 23rd in walks (84), 22nd in hit by pitch (21), 34th in sacrifice flies (8), 44th in stolen bases (53), 31st in slugging percentage (.469), 12th in shut outs (8), and 52nd in opponent batting average (.251).

During OU's run of 12 straight wins, Ottawa is hitting .321 (109-340), has scored 109 runs and hit 25 doubles, two triples, and 12 home runs. The Braves have driven in 84 runs, have a .512 slugging percentage, walked 35 times, struck out 47 times, has a .395 on base percentage, and is 24-for-28 in stolen base attempts. Ottawa's pitching staff has a 3.59 ERA, striking out 41 in 82 innings. Opponents are hitting .291 against OU in these last 12 games.

Ottawa leads the series against the University of Saint Mary, 42-12, and is on a 16 game winning streak against the Spires. OU has won eight straight games against USM at Alumni Park. Ottawa last loss to Saint Mary was at Alumni Park on March 24, 2015. USM won the game, 18-10 in six innings. The first ever meeting between the two teams happened on March 5, 1996. Ottawa won the game 11-3. The Braves won the three meetings last season. OU took both games in the regular season on April 9 in Leavenworth, 6-3 and 4-0. The teams met in the KCAC Tournament on May 6 in Great Bend with OU taking the game, 4-1.

University of Saint Mary is 16-15 overall, has a record of 1-7 in the KCAC and enters Saturday's double header coming off a 5-3 win over (RV) Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Leavenworth on Tuesday. The win over the Eagles on Tuesday snapped the Spires four game losing streak. Through 31 games, USM has a .308 batting average, a .374 on base percentage, a .423 slugging percentage, has hit seven home runs, and scored 139 runs.

Alexis McDaniel leads USM in batting average (.435) and RBI (18). Megan Brinkman is the team's leader in ERA (4.03) and strike outs (30).

Saint Mary is ranked ninth in the NAIA in hits (280), 27th in doubles (48), fourth in triples (16), 22nd in extra base hits (72), 15th in total bases (384), 45th in walks (78), 40th in hit by pitch (18), 24th in sacrifice flies (9), 14th in sacrifice hits (25), and 29th in shut outs (6).
